Tomorrow's world is here, today!

Back to the roots

'Truth to Materials' – the new Capsule Collection from Patagonia demonstrates clearly the potential of recycled materials.

Undyed cashmere wool, recycled wool, cotton and feather down - with their new 'Truth to Materials' collection, Patagonia are pinning their hopes on recycling and natural materials. The Californian company had already changed over to organic cotton and recycled polyester for last season; the new collection goes one step further and returns to the origins of the materials.

A shopping mall with a difference

Centre Commercial in Paris pins its hopes on sustainability and 'Made in France'

Centre Commercial, is simply the French word for shopping mall. The concept store in the rue de Marseille, in Paris's 10th arrondissement is by no means as big as a shopping mall – but the range and variety of the products on offer is pretty amazing. Alongside fashion labels from France and other European countries, which focus on sustainability and traditional skills, there are also books, vintage furniture, artworks and even bicycles on sale.

Cork 'n Clothes

Innovation: cut or knitted? Cork is shedding its naff, eco-geek image and becoming fashionable

High-fashion from cork? Though this initially sounds like an idea that was born after pulling the cork on too many bottles of wine, it has long since been a reality for the developers of the product. Cork is a renewable material and is supposed to possess some really miraculous qualities. High time, then, for Texpertise to make this innovative 'fibre' one of its regulars.

Energy revolution

Smart textiles – energy-generating fibres a highlight of the forthcoming Techtextil

Piezoelectric fibres and yarns are now in a position to generate energy. As a result, they represent one of the most innovative areas of research in the field of smart-textile development. These fabrics of the future will constitute one of the key themes at the international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, from 4 to 7 May 2015 in Frankfurt.

Heimtextil strengthens the market for green textiles

The world's largest trade fair for home and contract textiles provides both information and inspiration for all things relating to sustainability in the design of interior soft furnishings.  Alongside lectures, special shows and specialist tours of the exhibition, there will, for the first time, also be a dedicated centre of excellence: the Green Village, where quality-mark awarding bodies, certification agencies and NGOs will be presenting their work.
